Erdem: painterly perfection

Monday morning showcased the collection of Montreal-born and London favourite designer Erdem at the Embankment Galleries of Somerset House.  His dazzling dresses were perfectly poetic and executed with such incredible precision down to the very last stitch.  Using his signature silk prints Erdem covered his high collared masterpieces with blooms in deep violet, midnight blues, burnt yellows and deep reds.  The higher waists moulded in to full skirts further embellished with more three dimensional garden flowers before seeping back in to the dress as an inky and beautifully distorted silk print.

The collection also featured cropped jackets, floor length column skirts, tapered trousers and unyielding ankle boots seemingly hand painted to match and equally as delicate. The mood seemed dark and unreservedly romantic as the girls slithered down the runway.  Their skin pale with top knots and crimson lips, reminded us of cold nights spent shut in cavernous Russian palaces and warming by the fire. Truly regal and undeniably desirable, how can you not fall in love with Mr. Moralioglu monumental talent?

We love discovering new music here at Daily Value.  So I was incredibly pleased to find the Wavves myspace page bookmarked on my little computer. As a fan for quite sometime I was surprised we hadn’t brought him to your attention before. To make up for our error I would love you all to meet Nathan Williams also known as Wavves, a kid from San Diego creating his own mark in music with catchy skater/slacker anthems.  Also a fan of bedroom lo-fi beat making, his vocals manage to slither up amongst the twisted sounds of the drums and guitars. With his first album already out and tearing through with paypal purchases, Wavves is currently recording a follow-up 12″ LP due out this March on Fat Possum.  You can also follow him on the road via his blog Ghost Ramp where he shares photos, band news and his current favourite YouTube videos.

On a side note…

we’ve had Air France on replay all week.

Welcome to Heartbreak

We here at Daily Value can’t seem to get enough of Kanye West. The video for Welcome to Heartbreak, directed by Nabil Elderkin is pretty amazing! Check it out.

Rumor has is that Kanye rushed the video to avoid comparison to Chairlift‘s current single Evident Utensil.

Umit Benan: a rough cut

German born and now Milan resident Umit Benan has brought a little bit of old world edge to his new menswear collection for the fall.  A little more than rough around the edges, Umit has managed to create a line of suits, outerwear and knits that are both luxurious but discreet.  At first glance, it is impossible to tell that Umit uses the finest fabrics by some of the best manufacturers in Italy.  Here is where his motto,”What you see is not what you get”, comes to play.  While the quintessence of the garment is what is viewed on the outside, the gorgeous beauty of the fabric is left on the inside and is strictly for your eyes and pleasure alone.  Umit has collaborated with a number of great designers such as Marc Jacobs and Rifat Ozbek but this will be his first presentation of a menswear brand that is truly all his own.

With the simple cuts, lines, colors and his attention to detail we advise all our well dressed male readers to keep an eye out and get your hands on some seriously good stuff.

You can view the rest of the collection here.

Designer Alison Lewis previews her new collection for LEWIS with a romantic video featuring gorgeous girls, vintage inspired clothing and the big city. Director Brantley Gutierrez captures the ethereal essence of the clothing perfectly as the models flit about in frill and lace.  We here at Daily Value want every item featured in the SS09 line. But our favourites include high-waist bubble shorts, ruffled camisole, and faultless fit silk shift dress that make us dream of summer.

You can check out the video of the collection here on Vimeo.
